The administration issued a record amount of heft in the federal rule book in 2015 as President Obama’s team, carrying out his orders to work around Congress, pushed his expansive government agenda on environmental, labor and Wall Street policy.
With one day to go, the administration added 81,611 pages to the Federal Register, according to the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s count of the official record-keeping digest of federal agencies’ rule-making. It’s the highest total on record and the third time Mr. Obama has crossed the 80,000-page level during his presidency, the institute’s Clyde Wayne Crews calculated.
“This is the pen and phone era, and the president has made clear he’s going to go around Congress when he gets the chance,” Mr. Crews said. “We expected Congress to do something about it, but it didn’t.”
Instead, it was the federal court system that challenged the executive branch in 2015, and Mr. Obama was dealt several significant defeats in front of judges who shut down two of his biggest initiatives: to rewrite immigration law and to extend the hand of the federal government to permitting decisions throughout the country.
The White House Office of Management and Budget, which oversees federal agencies’ rule-making, did not respond to a message seeking comment on the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s numbers, nor on the legal defeats judges delivered to Mr. Obama this year.
All told, the administration has proposed 2,334 rules and finalized 3,378 rules and regulations during the year, Mr. Crews said.
Among several that made headlines was the Food and Drug Administration’s proposal in December to ban people younger than 18 from using tanning beds. Others were particularly hefty and covered major parts of the U.S. economy, including the Federal Communications Commission’s net neutrality policy and the Environmental Protection Agency’s clean power plan and its effort to extend its power over land-use decisions through its Waters of the U.S. rule.
Mr. Crews said the size and scope of the regulations are beyond anything seen before. He said with the exception of President Reagan, who managed to limit the Federal Register to under 50,000 pages of new rules and regulations per year, the recent level has usually been around 70,000. But under Mr. Obama it’s been hovering around 80,000.
That means more government rules constraining businesses and private citizens’ decisions — and acting as a brake on the economy, he said.
“Just the sheer volume, the size of the Federal Registry, has never been this high,” he said. “The government always grows, but we’re seeing something unique here.”
Most of the attention in Washington is focused on Congress and lawmaking, but academics and legal scholars are increasingly debating the role of federal agencies and whether the executive branch should have such a concentration of power.
With thousands of rules issued a year, compared with only several hundred bills from Congress, the amount of action coming from the executive branch is hard to track, Mr. Crews said.
Congress, with Republicans now in control of both chambers, has tried to push back. The massive spending bill Congress cleared this month included provisions preventing the IRS and the Securities and Exchange Commission from releasing new political campaign finance rules.
The House next week will vote on a bill requiring agencies to post short online summaries of complex rules and to submit monthly reports to the OMB about rules they expect to finalize.
But lawmakers have had less luck overturning rules that Mr. Obama already has released.
Just before adjourning this year, Congress passed resolutions disapproving of two EPA rules designed to force states and power plants to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. But Mr. Obama vetoed both of those resolutions, and Congress is unlikely to be successful in overriding him, meaning his plans will remain in effect.
Earlier in the year, Congress passed a measure to overturn rules from the National Labor Relations Board that employers said would allow labor unions to force “ambush” elections. Mr. Obama vetoed the bill, andCongress failed to override the veto.
The Senate in November passed a measure to overturn the Waters of the U.S. rule, which extends the regulatory power of the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers to millions of acres of land where the government says runoff could affect major waterways.
The House has yet to take up that measure, but the courts stepped in, with a federal appeals court blocking the policy nationwide in an August ruling.
The majority in the 2-1 ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the government never bothered to propose the distance from a major water source land would need to be to escape federal monitoring.
That was one of several big losses for the administration’s regulatory agenda this year. The biggest, however, was on immigration, where Mr. Obama’s deportation amnesty, announced through “guidance” memos issued by Homeland Security in November 2014, was struck down just two days before it was to go into effect in February.
The judge in that case said Mr. Obama broke the law by short-circuiting the usual public notice-and-comment requirements required when the administration changes major policies.
A federal appeals court agreed and went even further, saying that granting work permits and future stays of deportation to millions of illegal immigrants also violates the Immigration and Nationality Act itself.
Mr. Crews said the immigration actions are part of a trend in which the executive branch is increasingly using guidance and memos — or what he calls “regulatory dark matter” — to avoid even the low requirements of notice and comment for policy changes.

The Government Accountability Office, which is Congress‘ chief watchdog, said in a 2012 report that when it came to major rules — those with far-reaching economic impact — the government short-circuited the process nearly 70 percent of the time.

U.S. cop in hot seat for other role with Muslim group

'That should raise a few hairs on your heads'

BOB UNRUH

Controversy is swirling around a Broward County, Florida, deputy sheriff over his outside position as an officer for the local Council on America-Islamic Relations, whose national organization was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the nation’s largest terror-funding case.
And BH Media reported locally that, “Radio host Joyce Kaufman, of 850-WFTL, has criticized the hiring of Hamze on her show, and a post critical of the hire of Hamze placed on a BSO forum at LeoAffairs.com has received a whopping 70,000 views, making it one of the most-clicked posts ever to appear on the forum.”
In an opinion piece posted by the staff at Jewish Voice New York came a warning to Broward County residents.
“If you’re up to date on Islamic terror in this country, you know that CAIR is a HAMAS and Muslim Brotherhood associated organization that was named in 2007 and 2008 by the U.S. government has a co-conspirator in the raising of millions of dollars for HAMAS. Put two and two together, and we come to the conclusion that a major leader of CAIR-HAMAS, sheriff’s deputy Hamze, is responsible for your safety.
“That should raise a few hairs on your heads as well as a few questions that must be addressed.”
BH Media reported Hamze “was not given authorization” to speak about his employment.
But on the CAIR-Florida website, his page lists him as the regional operations director as well as executive director of CAIR South Florida.
“It is my job to protect your civil rights and serve the Muslim community,” he explains. “We as Muslims have the right to practice Islam without fear of discrimination or retaliation. We as Muslims have the right to raise our children according to Islam without interference. We as Muslims have the right to participate in the governing of our society. And most importantly, we as Muslims have the right to live in peace.”
He singles out “all the Muslims, Islamic Centers, Islamic Schools, Islamic Organizations, and to my fellow Americans” and promises, “I will stand with you if you stand with me!”
The Jewish Voice said the circumstances require people to consider “the possibility that one or more of these law enforcement individuals might share some loyalties with those same terrorists whom they are sworn to protect us against.”
The article questions how Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, a Jew, hired Hamze, and also whether the fact that Israel is a Democrat in a district represented by Democrat National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz had any impact.
BH Media reported district resident David Rosenthal is on a campaign against Hamze.
“I am against Shariah-compliant Muslims having any position in government, law enforcement or the schools,” he told the station.
A CAIR-Florida lawyer, Wilfredo Ruiz, came to Hamze’s defense in local media, saying the man is a dedicated deputy who is being treated unfairly.
It was when a federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled that CAIR has no legal basis to claim its reputation was damaged by an undercover investigation documenting its ties to global jihad.
As WND reported, CAIR filed suit in 2009 against former federal investigator Dave Gaubatz and his son, Chris Gaubatz, after their findings were published in the WND Books expose, “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.
In its lawsuit, which is scheduled to go to trial, CAIR originally alleged it suffered damages after the younger Gaubatz, posing as an intern, obtained access to some 12,000 pages of CAIR internal documents under false pretenses and made recordings of officials and employees without consent.
CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in the nation’s largest terror-funding case, complained of the loss of donor revenue and the loss of contact with legislators and policymakers.
But when asked by defendants in the discovery process to identify its donors and name the lawmakers it has contacted, CAIR replied by stating it was no longer claiming damage to its reputation.
U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said CAIR’s filing of a motion to reopen discovery so it can depose an expert witness on the economic impact of damages to CAIR’s reputation is “too late in the game.”
Furthermore, she said, CAIR itself has chosen three times not to claim damage to its reputation.
The judge has dismissed most of the case, leaving standing an allegation that Chris Gaubatz violated the federal and D.C. wiretap acts when he recorded video and audio of his conversations while serving as a CAIR intern.
While WND is not a target of the lawsuit, the news organization has provided the attorneys for Chris and Dave Gaubatz, a co-author of “Muslim Mafia.”
“This legal fight has been dragging on for years,” said Joseph Farah, founder and chief executive officer of WND. “We are only involved in this case to defend the First Amendment, the intrepid and courageous work of one of our authors and to expose CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood tentacles operating with impunity inside the U.S.”
Farah said the “tragic story of this case is that no one else was willing to step forward and pay for the world-class defense team we assembled, including famed First Amendment attorney Martin Garbus of the Pentagon Papers case and Dan Horowitz, one of the most knowledgeable lawyers in the country when it comes to CAIR.”
‘Ample evidence’
“Muslim Mafia” documents CAIR’s support of jihad, recounting its origin as a front group for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, the worldwide movement that has stated its intent to transform the U.S. into a Saudi-style Islamic state.
WND recently reported that Republican candidate Dr. Ben Carson has called for an investigation of CAIR, and the White House invited a CAIR executive to a meeting on battling religious discrimination. WND reported in October that CAIR’s problems with the IRS, exposed in “Muslim Mafia,” were noted by Carson.
FBI wiretap evidence from the Holy Land case showed CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad was at an October 1993 meeting of Hamas leaders and activists in Philadelphia. CAIR, according to the evidence, was born out of a need to give a “media twinkle” to the Muslim leaders’ agenda of supporting violent jihad abroad while slowly institutionalizing Islamic law in the U.S.
As WND reported in 2010, a federal judge later determined that the Justice Department provided “ample evidence” to designate CAIR as an unindicted terrorist co-conspirator, affirming the Muslim group has been involved in “a conspiracy to support Hamas.”

California Is Leading From Behind

Victor Davis Hanson

California has given us three new truths about government.
One, the higher that taxes rise, the worst state services become.
Two, the worse a natural disaster hits, the more the state contributes to its havoc.
And three, the more existential the problem, the more the state ignores it.
California somehow has managed to have the fourth-highest gas taxes in the nation, yet its roads are rated 44th among the 50 states. Nearly 70 percent of California roads are considered to be in poor or mediocre condition by the state Senate. In response, the state Legislature naturally wants to raise gas taxes, with one proposal calling for an increase of 12 cents per gallon, which would give California the highest gas taxes in the nation.
Because oil prices have crashed, state bureaucrats apparently believe that the public won't notice the tax increase in their fill-up costs -- even though special California fuel mandates already help make gas prices 25 percent higher than the national average.
Consider California's upside-down logic.
The state wanted to discourage driving and promote hybrid vehicles by upping taxes on carbon fuels. It worked, though it cost the public dearly. People drove less and bought more fuel-efficient cars. But now, because less gas is burned, fewer taxes are collected. So the state wants to reward motorists for their green sacrifices by raising their taxes even higher to make up for missing revenue. If state motorists drive even less and cram into two-seat commuter cars, will California further reward them with even higher gas taxes?
Notice what the state does not consider.
Are highway bureaucracies such as the California Department of Transportation run efficiently? The nonpartisan state Legislative Analyst's Office recently reported waste and inefficiency in Caltrans, citing a staggering 3,500 unnecessary Caltrans employees, and declaring the agency more inefficient than other states' transportation bureaucracies.
If California motorists are driving far fewer miles, shouldn't roads wear out more slowly -- and additional taxes not need to be raised for repairs? Could state revenues that have been diverted to the high-speed rail boondoggle instead be used for road repairs?
And how can a state with the highest number of poor people in the nation -- 23 percent of Californians are below the accepted poverty line, according to the Census Bureau -- ensure that its gas prices will be the highest in the nation?
California may be transitioning out of a devastating four-year drought. But the state at least should have taken advantage of that record stretch of dry, sunny weather to rush construction of new dams, reservoirs and canals to trap more rain and snowmelt. It never did. Despite talk of raising the height of Shasta Dam, as planned decades ago, or creating new reservoirs and San Francisco delta tunnels, nothing happened. Such projects are mired in endless environmental and cultural lawsuits.
Farmers want back their contracted surface water that environmentalists successfully went to court to divert to the sea. Greens want even more scarce water let out to the ocean to realize their dreams of the sort of rivers that ran through the state in the 19th century. But both agendas rely on more stored water.
Once the storms resume in normal fashion, millions of acre-feet of precious water will be lost to sea due to an antiquated storage system.
Only in California can government manage to turn both dry and wet years to its disadvantage.
There is a growing state epidemic of obesity. More than 30 percent of California children are overweight, and the rate is even higher among children from low-income families ages 2 to 5.
Nearly one in three Californians over age 34 who are hospitalized for any cause are found to suffer from diabetes. That lifestyle- and weight-related disease generally hits the poor and the Latino population even harder.
The epidemic is reflected in record costs for the state Medi-Cal health insurance program that covers about one-third of California's nearly 40 million residents. Medi-Cal costs have recently skyrocketed to $74 billion a year. That staggering figure is about half the size of the entire state budget. Had the federal government not kicked in more than $50 billion to fund rising Medi-Cal costs, California would now be broke.
Given the fact that California has the highest number of undocumented immigrants in the nation, and that well over half arrive from Mexico, where 70 percent of the population is overweight and nearly 33 percent are obese (the highest obesity rate in the world among heavily populated countries), the state should be in crisis mode. If state government insists on policies that encourage undocumented immigrants to settle in California, and allows so-called sanctuary cities to ignore federal immigration law, it should at least have a massive health information and outreach campaign -- given that Type 2 diabetes is almost always a preventable disease.
Meanwhile, the state health care system is in near collapse, and millions of California residents are sick and dying from a mostly avoidable disease.
California government, however, serves one purpose.
It always reminds America what not to do.

Hillary's Server, Monica's Blue Dress and History

Emmett Tyrrell

WASHINGTON -- To those of us who have followed the ongoing Clinton Saga, which now reaches back almost 25 years, Hillary Rodham Clinton's computer server promises to become as historic as Monica Lewinsky's stained dress. That is to say, that her server may indeed become as significant to her presidential prospects as Lewinsky's dress was to Bill Clinton's prospects for impeachment.
It is now apparent to fact-finders across the nation that some of Hillary Clinton's emails -- thousands of which have been saved on her personal server -- show that she lied to the American people as surely as Monica's dress proved that her husband lied to the American people and to the grand jury when he denied having sex "with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." Would it not be fitting that at the end of the Clinton Saga a dusty old server and a tired old dress go on display in the penultimate room of "The Clinton Museum and Souvenir Shop" down in jerkwater? Beyond that room comes the basement, featuring the words "They Lied to Us."
What the server's emails indicate is that on the night that four Americans were murdered in Benghazi, Hillary Clinton emailed the truth of how they died to her daughter. She told Chelsea Clinto that the Americans were the victims of an organized terrorist attack. She later admitted that to the Egyptian prime minister also. Nonetheless she signed a public statement from the State Department proclaiming that the Americans were the victims of a riot provoked by a YouTube video. After lying to the American people the evening of the attack, she repeated the lie to the victims' relatives when their bodies were flown in to Joint Base Andrews. Moreover she stood by her false account when she testified to the House Select Committee.
There are other untruths that have been passed on from Hillary Clinton's server. She has lied about arranging lecture fees from her State Department office for the gifted Bill Clinton. There are lies about arranging donations for her family foundation, her forthcoming political campaign, and her own speaking fees. There are lies on the topic of influence pedaling and on whom she kept in contact with. It must rankle President Barack Obama that she communicated with Sidney Blumenthal from her office after the president specifically asked that she not. And of course there are questions about what manner of classified information she kept on her personal server. This is being scrutinized even now by the FBI. In point of fact, Clinton's server may become even more historic than Lewinsky's dress.
As a veritable scholar of the Clinton Saga, I remember entertaining inquiries from doubters on national television, for instance James Carville and the earnest Paul Begala. They wanted to know why in a controversy over the Clintons' Whitewater dealings Independent Counsel Ken Starr was pursuing the president on questions so marginal as his sexual adventures with la Lewinsky. Well, I had answered that the Clintons were part of the Liberal camorra that had raised thitherto harmless sexual advances to the level of a criminal offense. Surely the Clintons were as answerable to these new laws as the rest of us. I never had the opportunity to spurn the ravenous advances of an overheated intern, but Bill Clinton did and he allowed Lewinsky to ill-use him. For Starr, that was easier to prove than allegations about a second-rate real estate deal.
One sure way to prove that Bill or Hillary Clinton has lied is to subject their lies to the incontrovertible examinations of a DNA test or to the disinterested workings of modern engineering. Bill Clinton, when pressed, could babble on for years with learned hypotheticals about the meaning of "is" or "was" or "oral sex." He actually argued that oral sex was not sex. So Starr was forced to bring in the DNA experts, and hesto presto: He lied. Now we shall have to bring in the contents of Hillary Clinton's server. It will prove she lied on a wider range of topics than mere sex with a hot-blooded intern.
The only question is will the Republicans running for the presidency have the fortitude to ask the tough questions. Last weekend, Donald Trump hinted menacingly that he does. Will the others? They should fill the airwaves with such questions about Benghazi, influence pedaling, $500,000 speeches, campaign finances, and forget not that uranium concession to the Russians.
Remember what I said in one of my scholarly disquisitions published years ago at the beginning of this historic saga: "The Clintons lie when they do not have to lie, and they tell a gaudy whopper when a little white lie would be perfectly satisfactory." Pursue the lies, you who seek the highest office in the land. The majority of the American people already believe Hillary Clinton is a liar and untrustworthy. As to Lewi sky's old blue dress? I think they have forgotten.

Populism from Unlikely Candidates

Jonah Goldberg

Populism is typically born in places like Nebraska, Louisiana, Kansas and the other places given short shrift in that famous Saul Steinberg New Yorker cartoon showing the view of the world from 9th Avenue.
It's not supposed to hail from Brooklyn or Queens, never mind Burlington, Vermont, or midtown Manhattan. But that's where the two reigning populists of the 2016 cycle call home.
You could say that Donald Trump, the son of a rich real estate developer in Queens, was always a populist at heart. All his life he wanted to break into the fancy-pants world of Manhattan real estate. Despite his wealth, he still has that bridge-and-tunnel chip on his shoulder. And that chip explains the garishness of his publicity-seeking lifestyle, as well as his politics.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders grew up in Brooklyn, the son of Polish-Jewish immigrants. He followed a somewhat familiar path to politics. As Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina quipped in one of the recent Republican debates, Sanders went to the Soviet Union on his honeymoon and never came back. In reality, he ended up in Burlington and became the socialist mayor of one of the very first latte towns.
Looked at through a historical lens, a billionaire Manhattanite from Queens and a Jewish socialist from Brooklyn should be standing at the pointy end of the pitchforks, not leading the mobs holding them. Nearly all of the famous populists hated the East Coast, the super-rich and the big cities. A good number -- but not all -- of them disliked Jews.
And yet, what you might call "blue state populism" is here.
It's a fantastic moment to compare and contrast, as they used to say in school.
If you can ignore the fact that he's a billionaire who brags about having been part of the corrupt political system he promises to overthrow, Trump resembles some of the great populists of yesteryear. He's a nationalist who promises to restore the country to the greatness his followers nostalgically desire. He's a nativist whose one core issue is stopping illegal immigration -- and now any immigration of Muslims, "temporarily." And he's a consummate panderer -- or, if you prefer, "fighter" -- who channels and validates his supporters' frustrations. As the fictionalized Huey Long character Willie Stark says in the novel "All the King's Men," "Your will is my strength. Your need is my justice." Long promised to make "every man a king." Trump promises to make everyone a winner.
Sanders, meanwhile, is all about populist economics -- literally. With the exception of his pacifism, he is almost incapable of talking about anything else. But his worldview would be totally recognizable to William Jennings Bryan or Long or even Father Charles Coughlin. According to populist economics, the rich exploit the poor and the middle class intentionally. They leech off their hard work, and they send them to war.
The proper role for populist-run government is to make the puppetmasters pay, literally and figuratively. Our economy is "designed by the wealthiest people in this country to benefit the wealthiest people in this country at the expense of everybody else," Sanders insists. The "billionaire class" has rigged it all, and he's so angry about it, he often seems more interested in tearing down the rich than building up the poor. (To borrow a Seinfeldian phrase, Sanders sounds like an old man sending back soup at a deli.)
This is one place where Sanders and Trump overlap. They want to make the people ruining this country pay. Sanders wants to impose a cartoonish "speculation" tax on Wall Street; Trump wants to make the Mexicans pay for the wall that will keep them out.
The one area where Trump and Sanders break totally with populist practice, other than geography, is religion. Nearly all of the famous heartland populists of yore were steeped in Christianity and spoke its language fluently. Long's "Share the Wealth" plan, for instance, was vaguely derived from the Bible.
Sanders is a "not particularly religious" Jew who hates to talk about religion. Trump, because he's seeking the GOP nomination, has had to work hard at faking religious sincerity. But even if he were serious that he won't share his favorite Bible verse because "that's personal," his reluctance would distinguish him from traditional populists.
That may be a sign of the times. Or it may just be the kind of politics you get when you start a populist prairie fire so far from the prairies.

In the West, a New Birth of Liberty, and the Will to Live

Arthur Schaper

The Night before Christmas, I asked one of my customers where I work, a Saudi native studying in California: “How do you say “Merry Christmas!” in Arabic?”
He chided me: “We don’t have Christmas in my country.”
Not true.
This article from Breitbart featured tweets from Christmas celebrants throughout the Middle East. Even in Saudi Arabia, where Christians worship in the privacy – a Western concept if there ever was one – of their own homes, in Lebanon, Syria, and throughout the Arab World. In the African countries, too, where Christians face untold hardships to their faith, and privations unimagined in this modern century, men and women celebrated Christ the Savior, born in a tiny manger in Bethlehem, the only baby born expressly to die for us, and as us, to live for us and through us. Despite the worst tortures, persecutions, and the virulent rise of ISIS in the world, those who call on Jesus as Savior are not afraid to declare that Jesus is indeed the reason for the season, and not just in the Middle East.
The Western ideal, the tradition of life, liberty and the will to live rather than die, is rising again.
The latest fervor for Christ even among former Muslims is a latent testimony that a new birth of freedom is breaking forth: of religion, liberty of conscience, in defense of Western values in spite of the raucous Islamic hordes teeming along around the world. In Europe, where Islamic hordes are invading, and the Western culture faces unprecedented assault against its regard for freedom, limited government, and respect for individual worth and natural rights, Middle Eastern refugees are fleeing their “faith” and embracing Christ and Him Crucified.
Muslims are converting in larger numbers to Christianity, and to Christ, but not just in the Middle East, but throughout Europe. Skeptics will argue that these areQuranic “White Lie” maneuvers to spread Islam through stealth. One problem: by becoming a Christian, an ex-Muslim signs his death warrant before the rest of the Islamic community. Intellectuals like British atheist Richard Dawkins have hammered this truth time and again to otherwise unheeding viewers throughout Britain. Apostasy is a death sentence in Islam.
So, Arabs are converting from a horrific cult-like political ideology. What about the rest of Europe? Is the continent done for?? Pamela Geller, who sponsored a “Draw Mohammed” cartoon art gallery in Garland, Texas, feared the worst, lamented in an article “The West has Lost the Will to Live”: “our top priority should be to crush the enemy. Instead, we get pathos and pitiful memes.” Has Western Civilization as we know it thrown up its collective hands and given up? Does every civilized country want to welcome this pernicious ideology?
In Africa, Angola has officially banned Islam, and begun closing down mosques throughout the country. In China, political correctness has not shackled leading officials to place limits on Islamic bullying against those Muslims who reject radicalism in all its forms. In France, Socialist President Francois Hollande has spear-headed investigations then invasions into key mosques, with their permanent closure following discovery of gun caches and other weaponry.
Not for this Swiss parliamentarian, that is certain. In 2011, Oskar Freysinger railed against the fascism which this horde-like religion would bring. “Europe is an idea”, he assured his audience. More than countries or political economies, Europe is “a cultural landscape, and intellectual space shaped by history.” He received thunderous applause for defending the essential tenets of life and liberty in the West, in contrast to the barbarism of Islam. A wide swath of Swiss residents (left and right, male and female) had already voted to ban minarets, out of growing unease with a rising population of political Islamic militants refusing to integrate.
Around the same time, this Austrian member of parliament exposed and excoriated the double-standard amongst illiberal European elites, whom he derided as “Tolerance Romantics”. What set off his furious remarks then? The arrogance of the Turkish ambassador, who had faulted the Austrian government for “interfering” with the integration of Turks, and yet migrant behavior, and the ambassador’s own actions, betrayed their resistance to adopt European customs, and insistence that their Islamic way of life be accepted.
These uproars are rising all over Europe and the rest of the world. There are more people with the will to fight back, to survive, to thrive once again. In Italy, Islam is not recognized as an established religion. One of the founding Renaissance thinkers of the time, Thomas Aquinas, rejected the edits of Mohammed and viewed the religion as a heretical perversion of Christianity, nothing more. In Great Britain, despite his wayward actions, Prime Minister David Cameron reminded the British public: “We are a Christian country.”
Here in America, too, a new birth of freedom, of national identity is breaking forth. Leaders and readers are craving revival of our spiritual heritage, our Western culture. If you thought the Austrian parliamentarian mentioned above was tough, just listen to Chanell Temple of Hawthorne, CA (also a fellow member of We the People Rising!) blast the corrupt Huntington Park, CA City Council. As I have written before, this city council appointed two illegal aliens to city commissions, overlooking thousands of legal and qualified residents in the city. Temple thrashed their hypocrisy toward legal residents and the rule of law: “My people break the law, they go to jail. You people break the law, you get amnesty. We are not going to have to sets of law!” The double-standard ends today. Western civilization is superior, and is worth fighting for, and no one can disregard the peace and safety of legal residents in the name of global equality.
Despite the tyranny of Islam, and the simmering fecklessness of a lax secularism, there is a new birth – a renaissance -- of life and liberty, of Western culture and values, of Christianity in the face of profane lawlessness shining forth again in the world.

HOW WHITE LIBERALS USE BLACK KIDS

"I am struck by the high level of anxiety and worry on all fronts," said Robert Jones, CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute, as PRRI released its American Values Survey November 17.
There are many obvious causes of national nervousness: terrorism, crime and domestic unrest, political weakness and uncertainty, economic woes, and moral collapse, to name a few.
Yet there is unidentifiable angst in the national soul. In our travels and interactions with people across the United States, we conclude this hidden distress is spiritual.
America needs revival, but first there must be national repentance.
Ancient Israel shows how it's possible for a whole nation to repent. There are powerful examples showing how repentance brought return to God, and restoration of the nation to its values and the best of its history, as well as security and general well-being.
America itself has had serious moments of repentance.
The new nation was much in need of revival and repentance just after the American Revolution. Alcoholism, immorality, crime, church decline all were rampant. Tom Paine thought "Christianity will be forgotten in thirty years."
Insightful leaders recognized the need for change and repentance.
In 1781, Thomas Jefferson, in his Notes on the State of Virginia, seeing the evil of slavery, asked: "can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction that (human) liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath?"
Then Jefferson laid bare his own soul. "Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever."
Sadly, the repentance whose need was implied in Jefferson's words did not come for himself or the country, and God's justice was indeed awakened as America tore itself apart in the War Between the States decades later.
On July 19, 1812, President James Madison was moved not only to "implore the assistance of Heaven" as America was once again at war with Britain, but also to call for national repentance. Madison proclaimed August 20, 1812, to be set apart, among other things, to seek God's "assistance in the great duties of repentance and amendment."

A half-century later, in 1863, national repentance was again on the minds of many of the nation's leaders as North and South waged war against one another. President Lincoln concurred with the Senate in designating April 24, 1863, as a day of "national prayer and humiliation."
"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people," says Proverbs 14:34.
"Disgrace" refers to that which actually brings down a nation. National repentance is crucial for ridding a country and its people from the evils that cause fragmentation and dissolution. As with Lincoln and other leaders in American history, it is vital to identify and repent over specific sins against God's holiness.

National repentance is also strategically important because of the way the powers of darkness operate.
Paul writes that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places …" (Ephesians 6:12)
The demonic operates on the principle of "place," or "ground." (Ephesians 4:26-27)
It is our own sin that provides the "ground" on which the demonic can build fortresses within us individually and nationally. Repentance removes the ground, and deprives Satan of his opportunity to control and destroy us.
The United States — any nation — repents the same way ancient Israel carried out national repentance: through the faithful remnant.
The principle is given in 2 Chronicles 7:14-16, where, as the Temple built by Solomon is dedicated, God promises:
(If) My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.
Centuries later Simon Peter tells Jesus, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." On the basis of that confession Jesus gives Simon a new name — Petros, a "piece of the Rock." And Jesus gives Simon Peter and all like him something else: "the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven."
Simon Peter's acknowledgement of Jesus as the "Christ" is the fundamental confession of the Church. The "keys" symbolize the authority of the Kingdom of God. They are given to the confessional community, the real Church that joins in Peter's declaration of Jesus' Messianic identity.
That authority was not given to the White House, the Congress, the Parliament, the Kremlin, or any other earthly power. The authentic Church is the agency of God's authority in the world. This is not mere earthly power that depends on the strength of human flesh and muscle. Rather, it is authority against the spiritual forces out to destroy the world.
When the Church repents on behalf of its nation, God releases forgiveness and healing on the land. When that happens the waters of revival sweep across the nation, bringing life where there have been dry deserts, and the harvest where there have been barren fields.
The best thing for America — and all the nations — is for the remnant within the midst of society to begin the New Year on its knees, repenting for national sins, and seeking God for revival.

America's most urgent need as the New Year begins is national repentance.

Advice for parents of African-American college-bound students

WALTER WILLIAMS

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia ran headlong into the leftist meat grinder by questioning whether college admission of blacks with academic achievement levels significantly lower than the rest of the student body is beneficial to blacks. His question came up during oral arguments in Fisher v. University of Texas, wherein the court will rule whether the use of race in college admission decisions violates the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of “equal protection of the laws” to all citizens.
Justice Scalia’s questions generated news headlines such as “Justice Scalia suggests blacks belong at ‘slower’ colleges,” “Scalia questions place of some black students in elite colleges” and “Scalia and the misguided ‘mismatch’ theory.” Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said, “It is deeply disturbing to hear a Supreme Court justice endorse racist ideas from the bench of the nation’s highest court.”
The issue for black parents is not whether their sons and daughters should be admitted to an elite college or one that is lower-ranked. The issue is whether their sons and daughters should be admitted to a college where they would not be admitted if they were white. The question for black parents and black people is: Which better serves our interests, a black student’s being admitted to an elite college and winding up in the bottom of his class or flunking out, or a black student’s being admitted to a less prestigious college and performing just as well as his white peers? I would opt for a black student’s doing well and graduating from a less prestigious college.
Think of it this way. Suppose you asked, “Williams, would you teach my son how to box?” I say yes, and after your son wins a few amateur matches, I set him up with a match against an elite boxer like Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis. Your son may have the potential to be a world-class boxer, but he is going to get his brains beaten out and have his career ended before he learns how to bob and weave.
It’s the same with any student – black or white. Pupils are less likely to succeed if they are placed in a fast-paced academic environment where their academic achievement levels do not begin to match those of their peers. Such students would have a greater chance of success in a slower-paced, less competitive environment, one more in tune with their preparation and where they might receive more personal help.
My recommendation to black parents is: Do not enroll your children in a college where their SAT score is 200 or more points below the average of that college. Keep in mind that students are not qualified or unqualified in any absolute sense. The nation has more than 4,800 colleges, meaning there’s a college for most anybody.
There are beneficiaries from admitting black students with little chance of performing at the level of other students. They are college presidents, administrators and campus liberals. Whether blacks graduate or have been steered into useless “Mickey Mouse” courses is irrelevant. Government race overseers are only counting colors. College administrators win kudos for achieving and celebrating “diversity,” not to mention the fact that they can keep government higher-education handouts.
Another group of beneficiaries is composed of black staff and faculty who are hired and create campus fiefdoms with big budgets based on the presence of black students. The number of black students enrolled is the key, not the number who graduate or wind up in useless “Mickey Mouse” courses or in the bottom of their classes. In fact, there is an element of perversity. The greater the number of blacks who are on academic probation or do not graduate the more justified are calls for greater budgets for academic support and student retention programs.
I have been asked: If elite colleges do not create lower admission standards, how are they going to have enough black students? My response is: That’s their problem. Black people cannot afford to have our youngsters turned into failures in order to support the agendas of diversity race hustlers and to lessen the guilt of white liberals.
